great deal! August 24, 2010 akimbo For the amount and what it is it's one of the best deals we found. We got it for our four year old so we don't expect it to last till he's in high school but what toddler bed does? The only thing I would change are the drawer handles. They stick out pretty far and have sharp angles. All in all, a good deal.

This is a super cheap bed. It was delivered for free via super saver shipping. So I don't know why I was surprised by the problems I had.
Problem #1) Odds are, this bed will arrive damaged. Its a heavy chunk of several particle boards and awkward to carry. Hardly surprising then, that the first one I ordered was damaged en route. Fortunately, the damage was spotted before it was delivered, so it never made it to my house. If it had been delivered (like it was to some others whose reviews I read), I'm not exactly sure how I would have repackaged it, had it picked up and returned. Its too heavy for one person to lift and maneuver - and I guess that includes the delivery people. I ordered the bed again, and this time it arrived without any noticeable damage. 50% ain't bad!
Problem #2) Shoddy construction & annoying assembly quirks. The little handles/pulls on the drawers are sharp and have scraped my feet several times in the week I've used it. Lots of the holes and contact points for the various pieces don't line up, so you have to force them into place. While I have problems with Ikea, they spend more time making their products easy to assemble at home. Several screws on this bed required a "robertson" (square head) screw driver. I have many tools, but not one of these. What's wrong with a phillps or flathead? Dumb. Also, the directions read backwards, from the bottom of each page to the top. Really?
So it took me 3 hours to assemble this bed, without Problem #3)...
Problem #3) Missing parts. There were several missing screws, dowels, and whatnot. This would seem to be a small issue, but the bed can't be assembled without them. I had to make a separate trip to the hardware store and then file down some wooden dowels so they would fit the holes. This took an extra two hours on a separate night.
Conclusion: If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten the Nomad bed frame on Amazon, which my friend bought. Nomad Solid Hardwood Platform Bed Frame - Twin Size While it looks plain compared to the glamour shots that this South Shore bed has,it is much easier to assemble, more sturdy and has no real design flaws.
. April 10, 2010 S. Allec When this package first arrived, it was so heavy that we struggled to drag it in the house. It's fairly easy to put together and looks very nice, built in a way so that it wont break easily. It is a little wider than a twin-bed mattress, so unless you use thick comforters there is a very noticeable gap. And once you do set it up, be prepared of not being able to move it very far any time soon.
Nice bed if you don't mind the work March 29, 2010 J. Dobbs (LOGANVILLE, GEORGIA, US) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This bed goes great with my son's furniture. Looks like we bought the pieces together. However, the amout of pieces that it comes in is a little much. This is NOT a simple project. I would say there was about 40 pieces or so. Once it was put together I was very pleased. The drawers slide easily and can hold quite a bit. I was also able to still fit my son's bed rails on. The only thing that I will be replacing at some point is the drawer knobs. They are very sharp on the edges and I have scratched myself a couple of times already. Overall it was a very well made nice looking bed.
Great bed for a "mild child" or small adult. March 23, 2010 R. Brinkerhoff 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I ordered two of these beds for my sons (ages 4 & 15) and I am happy with them. They were very easy to put together. The color is very dark--almost black which works great for the decor in my boys room. You actually don't even see much of the bed at all if you don't tuck in the comforter. The beds look nice, but I'm wondering how they will stand the test of time...FYI: the quality is OK, and pretty much consistent with any less-expensive, put-it-together-yourself furniture, but the drawer bottoms are on the flimsy side. They are fine for clothes, but I wouldn't put anything too heavy in them (lots of books, etc.). The dowels are made of plastic, not wood, and so are the drawer guides. Also, the boards that the mattress sits on top of are questionable...They seem a bit flimsy as well. I think they will be just fine for sleeping on, but if you have a child who likes to jump on beds, or tends to be on the destructive side, I'm not sure I would recommend this product. I also wouldn't recommend this product for an adult who is very large because I'm not sure the bed would hold up.
